Mend Bolens BL100 Start Replaced Starter

Bolens BL100 trimmer will not go past top dead center when trying to start?

I replaced the starter fly wheel cog and pull cord assembly on my Bolens BL100 trimmer. Now the motor will not turn over past top dead center without extreme pressure on the cord. It turns freely when I remove the spark plug. How can I get it to go past top dead center more easily?
