Mend Chevrolet 2006 Equinox Car First Started Engine Light

car chuggs when first started now engine light on?

About a week ago, my car, a 2006 Equinox, started chugging right after I started it for about 2 min. It would stop after a couple min. Now this morning, my engine light came on & was blinking for about 5 min. No other gauges came on. My gas cap is ok. Have gotten gas a couple times this week. Not sure if bad gas. But this is first time light has come on. Is this serious & ok to drive my car?
