how to put out the srs light on a 2001 mercedes ml 270?

the srs light on my 2001 mercedes ml270 comes on and stays on after you start the engine,my friend pluged his fault reader into the car and it says the passenger seat occupancy sensor is dfective,is there a way of bypassing this to put the light out.I went to Merc today and they wanted nearly £400 to install a new sensor in the seat,help.
