how can I fix my depollution faulty on peugeot 407 diesel?

I have a peugeot 407 se hdi 2005. the Depollution faulty warning is appearing. I have read/heard this is a common fault with various ways of fixing. Would like to know the right way to fix it. Also is this a common occurrence and is it likely to happen again
