Mend Whirlpool 387298 Washer Repair Noise

Whirlpool washer p# 387298 will not spin & how old is washer?

The washer stopped spinning. When it tries spinning it makes a loud noise like a light loose chain that revolves but is not grabbing.

I can't remember when we got the washer. Is it worth repairing or getting another one?

A simpler answer for the chainlike noise is that the plastic agitator "dogs" need replacing. It's about $7 for all 4 at Sears.

take the agitator off..at the top of the drum is a casting, into which are two brass tabs that drive the drum..over time the casting wears...and the brass might wear also
