After changing the engine on my escort van 1.8 d it won't start. The lights come on on the dash but it won't turn over on the key. If I short the starter motor out it turns over but won't fire. Any advice would be great. I have seen the same problem on this site but no feed back was given. Cheers Dan
The immobiliser inhibits the starter motor on your van

While turning the key fully as if to start check if there is a live feed to the thin wire on the solenoid of the starter.if there is power there and also to the main feed then it's the solenoid if no power it's your ignition switch or the key has lost it's programming
