Mend Gilera VX125 New Piston Rings

new piston and rings?

basically just had a new piston and rings fitted on my gilera runner vx125 and it starts straight up but once it started it backfires now and then is this normal or? thanks

like ted says it sounds like whoever did it has either bent a valve while doing it or there is a tight valve clearance

also, as yours is the 4 valve head could be sticking valve or tappet clearance(s) too tight.
