How to fix Electrolux Lavamat Washer-dryer??

My machine will fill up with water and wash for about 5 minutes before stopping. The start button lights up but upon pressing it nothing happens. I have to switch to spin cycle to get it to drain. Can anybody help me or offer advice please?
