compaq,cq61laptop wont start up?

laptop lid open,press start button,nothing????closes to me,left hand side corner,start light,charging light,and disk light, flashes three times when button is pressed for on and thats it help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????? lots of school stuff on
