Hi Debbie, just an update on how I fixed my 25 year old Zippy 90. I replaced the sponge brake www.andeeknits.co.uk - a proper Silver Reed spare part, NOT insulating foam tape - it does not work!!!! You have to remove all the needles first BEFORE you remove old strip. Make sure fabric on foam is facing upwards when fitting new strip. When replacing the needles, make sure you hook the needle in such a way that it compresses the foam .i.e. so you can see foam strip underneath the needle from reverse of machine, quite fiddly. Took me about 2 hours to complete the task. I then sprayed the needle bed with antistatic spray and, hey presto, it knits like a dream. Am knitting a pink chunky cardi for my new forthcoming grand daughter already! I love my Zippy! Good luck with yours. Jenny

Hi Debbie, I am having the same problem!! I didn't know you can actually BUY a sponge bar for Zippy 90, so I will try that, thank you! I wonder if the needles are all bent ? I may try replacing mine myself.....you can buy a manual for Zippy 90 from BSK.co.uk and also they do needles. Funny thing is that it worked perfectly, I packed it away for a year and then it wouldn't work....such a shame, as it is a lovely little machine and so easy and fun to use....or it was! It is about 24 years old!! Good luck! Jenny

Hi Debbie,
Sorry to hear you are having problems. When you replaced the sponge bar did you make sure it went in over the needles? If you hold the needles down with the flat side of the needle selector as you slide the sponge bar into position it will sit on top of the needles and should hold them reasonably firmly.
For a manual, try www.undyarns.co.uk - I know they have them for many different machines.
Regards,

Sue
