baxi combi 80e hot water ok - not so ch - no heating for ages?

I have a baxi combi 80e boiler and have no complaints with hot water but am having real trouble with the ch. The boiler will be 5yrs old next month (Feb) but I have been having problems for the past 2 yrs. I pay insurance to BG to cover my boiler, ch and various others but even their fitters appear to have no clue. Every time they come out they replace either the sensor or mother board but half an hour after they leave it's gone off again. I used to be able to jump start it by running the hot water and when i'd done this it seemed to kick start the heating but even this does not work now. It seems (sounds) to be constantly struggling to heat water as the water light is constantly on but the water is not (I do not use the pre heat) Please help, what can I do - had no heating since Christmas

Andy, the reason I am on here is because I have been calling out BG over the last two years and still they haven't been able to fix it. We have been freezing over the coldest Christmas and New Year in ages, I was looking for another option. I will now contact them again and suggest what has been discussed here and hopefully it will be fixed.

Your problem is simply a diverter valve malfunctioning, and will need replacing, changing the mother board or sensor won't do sod all.

this is without me looking at your boiler first, so just a basic advice get that checked from a regitered engineer who knows how to to do a job, there are a few good people out there and who won't take liberties either and charge you a reasonable.

I garee most BG engineers are clueless, a friend who had a similar problem they couldn't fix and kept saying he needs a new heat exchanger which is not covered by their policy! that was a load of bull, the problem was the diverter valve and they just didn't want to replace it, one engineer who called knew it was the problem but botched it up by bending a micro switch leaver to get a few more days out of it, needless to say soon as he left he was back and ended up having to replace the diverter valve, I was invited by my friend to oversee what he would or should do, whilst I pretended to know nothing. I was there in case he came up with another bull! I am not a corgi registerd but I know how much nonesence goes on out there, registered engineers not able to find simple faults, ends up costing owners unnecessary bills! in some cases even a replacement boiler that could otherwise have been fixed cheaply and not even two years old! it is totally shocking!

Call out BG who you pay your cover for.
I don't understand what you hope to achieve by asking questions on here, you have cover so you're hardly likely to be doing the work yourself.
