Mend McCulloch 438 Chainsaw Carb Throttle

McCulloch 438 Chainsaw Probs?

I have a McCulloch 438 Chain saw and cannot get it to rev on load! It now starts ok but will cough to a stop after several seconds and if you give the throttle a squeeze is coughs and conks out. Does anyone have any solutions or ideas; What do the 'L' and 'H' gagues do on the carb?
