heater fan Ldv Maxus?

My heater blower only works on number 4 setting,I recently jump started my van Ldv Maxus and numbers 1-2-3 on blower does not work.I have checked fuses but all ok,is there a relay control or sensor fault possibility and where do I locate the sensor.Help required thank you.

ok so as my heater blower resistor was knackered and i got a ford focus mark 2 replacement , there are a couple of things no body tells you when doing this job, and here they are, when you try to put the ford version after having connected the wires to it , back in to the hole near the blower fan unit , the housing of the ford version does not fit very well through that hole, so make sure that the actual resistor is facing upwards towards the top of the passenger side dashboard from laying under the floor well , then use either gaffa tape to stick the plastic unit to the plastic surface near that hole, then put the blower fan back in to position twist it to lock it in place, refit any nuts you removed , then re connect the two wire black plug to the blower unit , also when doing this you can see the cabin filter which looks impossible to remove easily, so for myself it is now a matter of getting a long handled thin brush a soft one and brushing the crap off from the cabin filter , because on a 2006 LDV MAXUS you have to remove not only the fan and the resistor , but also the black housing that surrounds the fan, which looks a sod to remove , and also the two seat passenger seat is useless, has no adjustment and will soon be removed and replaced with a different seat a single seat which has arm rests , and is adjustable not fixed in one nasty narrow position . the designers of these vans have a lot to learn about seating, wiring, and a lot of things which most other vans do not have issues with, it is reliable though , and drives nice , just the seats are crap, so next job is measure the seat fixing dimensions write them down , go online look for van seat schematics and find some that will do a better job than the standard LDV CRAP , oh and the cabin filter which is not the air filter in the engine bay on passenger side, the cabin filter is in the middle bottom of the inside of the van behind the big grey panel in the middle of the van in the front of it , they do not tell you this in their manuals by the way , see how the freemasons make you spend money or waste it by taking it to a GARAGE THAT CHARGES YOU £60 AN HOUR , NOT A GREAT WAY TO DO IT YOURSELF REALLY, SO BUY THE £20 cd SERVICE AND REPAIR MANUAL BECAUSE IT WILL SAVE YOU DICK LOADS OF MONEY AND STOP YOU WASTING TIME AND MONEY PAYING SOME GARAGE AN ARM AND A LEG TO DO SOMETHING SIMPLE,

you can also use electricians tape to put around the yellow spade connectors to insulate the wire , but i dont think i will use electrical tape on the actual resistor itself because that might make it heat up too much and cause a problem, so i will tape the whole unit in to position but only use the tape around the white plastic housing not on the metal parts or the resistor because i dont want a fire in my van

my speed resitor is knackered , so i got a ford focus one, from a 2007 ford focus , i looked at the back of it and saw four flat metal male spade connectors, and on the white plastic surround , the two plastic lugs are set top left and middle right, so i guess i connect the purple wire from my ldv van wiring to the top left ford focus spade connector , then top right red and white wire , then bottom left brown wire, then bottom right red and yellow wire, the female connectors are yellow coloured and are 25 amp rated, you use criming to close the yellow connector around each wire from the ldv maxus , then push each connector on to the male spade ends in the order described , then it should fix your problem possibly .

has anyone noticed how the instructions for wiring a ford focus heater blower speed resistor , seem to be orientated as in the described method as follows, looking at the back of the resistor pack, there are two fixing points , one on the bottom left hand side and one on the middle right hand side ?, now if you are looking at the rear of the ford focus resistor pack, the lugs which attatch the resistor pack are not on the bottom left and middle right when looking at it from the rear, they are only located at the bottom left if you are looking at the front of the resistor pack housing, so next time you attempt to lead us all astray , get your orientation correct please because your instructions make no sense, here is the correct explained method, when you look at the front of the ford focus mark2 heater blower speed resistor, you will see there are two plastic lugs which have holes in them , and if you are holfding it in front of your eyes , you will see that the four metal connectors are on the back side of the resistor assembly, and therefore the top left purple wire from the ldv wiring, goes to the top left connector on the ford focus resistor unit, bearing in mind you are looking at the ford focus unit from a view which does not allow you to see the rear of the unit, if you turn the unit around to look at the rear , the lugs are not top left and middle right at all , they are as follows, middle left and bottom right hand side , and from this view is where you will see the four metal connectors , so therefore when wiring this ford focus resistor to your wires from your ldv maxus wiring loom from the heater blower resistor part , this is ridiculous, just buy a new resistor unit , because the ford focus fix instructions are badly described by some one that has no idea of perspective when fitting such a unit , if you follow his instructions you will end up with the wire connecting to the wrong connectors, due to the fact the man obviously does not understand the difference between a front view and a rear view, when you turn the unit around the lug positions are not top left and middle right , they become middle left and bottom right , so now mr whatever your name is , try and describe the process from the point of v iew that the unit when wired has to be turned around to connect the female 25 amp spade conectors, which does not mean that the lug on the left is at the top left , i hsave tried your wiring and it does not work because your description is from the front view not the rear .

also you do not tape the metal connectors , because they conduct power which causes heat, you tape the unit in to position so it stays there , not the metal connectors, the metal connectors fit together tightly , as for the resistor itself no do not tape that either , if you do you risk heat build up on the resistor , to stop it shorting out , just make sure you do not allow any of the metal parts to touch any other electrical currents near where the speed resistor pack would normally go in the ldv maxus heater blower motor location including the fan and the unit , just tape the plastic housing of the ford focus part not the metal parts ,

answer what year ford focus ? I am using a 2007 ford focus speed resistor part , or a mark2 as it is also called , and also insulating electricians tape insulates, which means it does not cool parts down, it insulates them , so why would you insulate metal connectors which conduct the power through the speed resistor ? they heat up , so by insulating those metal connectors you would increase the heat build up , a stupid idea , if taping the resistor in place where the old LDV SPEED RESISTOR LOCATES , THEN TAPE THE PLASTIC HOUSING SO IT STAYS IN POSITION NEAR THE BLOWER MOTOR OR FAN , NOT THE FLIPPING METAL SPADE CONNECTORS .

correcting the mistake made about the replace each wire instruction- NO you do not need to replace the wires from the LDV Maxus heater resistor wiring unless they are burnt out, if NOT burnt out , you disconnect the wires from the LDV Maxus speed resistor plastic part which is the part you will replace with the ford focus resistor part, and when you look at the back of the ford focus MK2 resistor pack or plastic part , there are 4 spade connectors , to make sure you have that part the correct way around , the fixing lugs for it will be one on the bottom left hand side and one on the right hand side in the middle , these lugs are on the plastic housing either side of the plastic housing of the resistor spade connectors, the spade connectors are inside the plastic surround, there are four of them, then you put the wires you have disconnected from your LDV MAXUS SPEED RESISTOR PACK , into the 25 amp female spade connectors using the colours which have been stated AS TOP LEFT CONNECTOR PURPLE WIRE , TOP RIGHT CONNECTOR RED AND WHITE WIRE , BOTTOM LEFT CONNECTOR BROWN WIRE , BOTTOM RIGHT CONNECTOR RED AND YELLOW WIRE , AND YOU CRIMP THE FEMALE CONNECTORS WITH EACH WIRE CONNECTED TO EACH FEMALE SPADE CONNECTOR USING LONG NOSED PLIERS TO MAKE THE ROUND YELLOW COLOURED SPADE CONNECTOR ENDS TIGHTEN AROUND THE WIRE YOU HAVE PUSHED INTO THOSE CONNECTORS , THEN TAPE WITH ELECTRICIANS INSULATING TAPE EACH WIRE AT THE POINT WHERE THE WIRE COMES OUT OF THE ENDS OF EACH FEMALE 25 AMP SPADE CONNECTOR , SO THat the wire is insulated before it reaches the yellow housing of those connectors, the actual metal connectors you do not tape , because if you do , you risk causing heat build up where the metal ends of those spade connectors push on to the metal male connectors which are the four connectors inside the ford focus speed resistor part , I have to do this job in a little while , so obviously will not be taping the spade connectors because they are the connectors which heat up when you are running your blower motor from the dial on the panel on the dashboard surround , taping them is not a good idea unless you like fires , the tape you should put around the wires where they disappear and go in to the yellow 25 amp spade connectors not on the metal connectors , cannot believe some one would suggest such a numb skull idea of taping the metal connections , idiot

my fan doesnt work or doesnt blow on any speed = you need to replace the heater blower speed resistor with a ford focus one from mk2 ford focus , and read this page to find the colours you connect to the focus resistor , andso on, the ford focus is a mk2 ford focus year 2007- or 2006 , the rest of the information is on this page somewhere , saying purple wire to top left etc

year ford focus resistor will be 2006- or 2007 , which at a scrapyard is called a MARK 2 FORD FOCUS .

ANSWER - IF your ldv maxus is a 2006 ldv maxus , then a 2006-2007 resistor from a ford focus should do the trick , but you will need to buy 25 amp female spade conncetors to attach the wiring from the LDV heater blower wiring loom , i have just bough a ford focus used rersistor from a scrapyard in norfolk uk, cost £10 , then electricians tape i bought 4 colours , and for spade connectors i will go to halfords store and buy the YELLOW 25 amp rating FEMALE SPADE CONNECTORS four of them, then i shall take out the resistor from the MAxus , remove the blower unit, and re wire it according to the instructions found by typing in to the internet LDV MAXUS HEATER BLOWER RESISTOR , tyhere is an article telling you which colour wire to connect to each of the spade connections for the focus resistor, it is a HEATER BLOWER SPEED RESISTOR by the way

LdV Maxus 2007
Heater Resistor and heater fan is located behind glove box.
Remove Glove box
Then there is a black fan unit with 2 wires going to it.
Remove wires by unclipping connector
Remove 1 x screw holding fan motor assembly in place.
Twist unit to unlock
Fan drops out
look in and up behind where fan was and there is resistor its tucked up behind so you have to look right up in.
undo x2 screws (1 each side of it)
and i was able to pull resistor down into cab

It is located above fan, which you will have to remove and remove glove box and shelf above.
Disconnect plug twist out very stiff, once removed i replaced with a much cheaper ford focus resistor for less than £10 you will need to cut off old connector and replace each wire with a 25 amp spade connector. Tape each connector to insulate each one to get the right colours for right speeds are as follows. Although the focus resistor is of a different shape it will work tape up with electrical tape to avoid any shorting out the resistor side completely, looking at back of resistor as follows you will have two fixing points one at bottom Left one middle right. So wiring top left Purple top right Red/white, Bottom left brown bottom right Red Yellow. Now place resistor back inside hole.

The 25 amp spade connectors purchased from Halfords.

Remove glove box to expose heater motor, disconnect supply and remove single screw at 9 o'clock to the motor (closest to the centre of the motor) rotate assembly approx 20 degrees anti clockwise and pull out motor. Look up inside and u will see a printed circuit board if it looks water damaged remove it by rotation after diconnecting the terminals on the outside of the unit.

Just had mine fixed with a ford focus ressistor. The fault was caused by over heating due to a dirty polon filter.
