there are several reasons to why this may be happening, firstly, youre gonna have to void the warranty if its still in it by removing the sticker and opening it up; now ther will be a small cog which you can turn in order to see if it ids the angle of the disk, if it is this, the disk read error (DRE) is likely to be accompanied by a loud noise. try turning this in either direction to see if it helps, but before doing so, mark on the cog where it was before you turned it because it probably isnt that. next the most common reason: there is a screw drive (known as a snake drive) in the ps2 that moves the laser assembly, now attached to the laser assembly and in direct contact with this snake drive is a piece of plastic about 7mm long, this wears out very easily and is likely to need to be replaced, this would be very noisy if this is the fault - a grinding sound will occur, and youll get a dre. ebay has some of these for sale so just get a new one and replace it, there are of course plenty of othere reasons why youre comp might not be working, but they are liekly to be electical and shouldnt be carried out by unqualified people at risk of personal injury (i.e. chanigng the potential differece across the laser). mechanical faults tend to have noises of some form associated with the DRE and are also the easiest to repair.
