Mend Gas Oven Temperature Cooker

gas oven not heating?

My gas oven when switched on does not seem to increase in temperature (or gas flow in) when I turn up the knob - ie it is at a simmer heat when switched on and cannot be increased even if I turn up to 9..

cooker is about 15 years old.
