We have a solid mahogany table (rectangle with rounded corners) - at least 60 years old. We lifted it and one end (a whole plank) broke completely off (the legs are inset 12 inches.) What is the best way to repair. Could cold have weakened the glue along the join?
If the plank was glued to a flat surface remove all traces of glue from both surfaces before reglueing with a good quaity wood adhesive. Use a few screws to hold it in place while the glue is drying, do not remove screws as these will aid joint integrity.
Make sure the screws are short enough not to pierce the table top!!!
If the plank was butt jointed then you'll have to get a local handyman to do a repair with a biscuit joint.
