Mend Dimplex NSL Storage Heater Night Thermostat

how does the thermostat work on a dimplex storage heater work ?

My old dimplex night storage heater is very hot. I have the input dial down to zero but it is still to hot to touch. Does anyone know how the themostat works or how i may be able to adjust it?
