Trafic won't start?

My Trafic was parked up for the night running sweet that day. Next morning after a very rainy night it wouldn't start. Engine turned over and initially almost fired, but then no sign of running and then the engine stop light began to flash. Now when the ignition is turned on and left to extinguish dash lights the engine stop light remains flashing.
