how can i fix my astra x reg sri 1.8 i have a flashing service light ?

i have a flashing service light on my car (the pic of a car with a spanner going through it) it turns over but just doesnt start. i bought a code reader and it says theres no faults but yet it wont go has anybody had this problem before or does anybody know the solution to it? All i know is that is was working one day and it wasnt the next. Thanks in advance if you can help

hi to anybody looking at this i found out the problem! i dropped my keys and the chip inside the horse shoe housing( thats the bit the actual key bits on) had fallen out now he did ask if i had the book the car come with this has engine number in it ect, i didn and he sais he will have to charge me 90pound to come out and reprogamme my key lucky 4me i found the chip where i droped my keys so ended up learnig a valuable lesson treat your keys well and they will to lol good luck everyone and hope this helps

As soon as you said 'flashing light'......

There is a small transponder chip inside the key, which works the immobiliser.
The chip is only about 5mm by 3mm by 2 mm, usually black or grey.
If the key split open when you dropped it the chip has probably fallen out. It might be worth having a look around where you dropped it.
If you cant find it, new chips are not expensive but will have to be coded to the car using diagnostics.
Old chips which have been coded to another car can not be re-coded so watch what you buy.
If the key did not split, open it up and make sure the chip is seated correctly.
If you still have a problem it might be better to start a new question, as things tend to slip off the bottom of the page on here.

hi there yes i did drop my keys and when i went to use car again thats when the problem started.

there is a problem with your electronics and immobiliser this is a malfunction indicator lamp only way to find out what problem is to plug into a proper code reader costs vary around £25/35 afraid cheap code readers no good for vauxhalls
