Mend Volkswagen Passat TDI Loss Car Rev

loss of power in passat tdi ?

there is a loss of power in the car it wont rev above 1500-2000 rpm it cuts out showing STOP on dash but starts straight back up on tick over but when i rev again problem happens over again, would appreciate any help cos i'm really at a dead ebd with this cheers Adam
