CAR WONT START?

hi linda the problem u are havin can be a number of things try all the rest pepole av told u an al so try . technomatic relay on the chassi leg near the battery is ur fule pump priming up ?? ur fule pump could not work if this relay bon't work or the wire could be cr*p leading to the pump, also take ur dizzi cap off an turn the car over an see if the dizzi arm is movin if not ur cam belt mite of snaped it this az them u wil need a recond eng .iv had the the same prob an ma cam belt went hope u get it sorted soon im gettin 2 more gti so il start to learn more bout them any more probs let me no

Hi there.

Ive got a 1.9 gti which had the same problem a while back. It came out the blue with no warning. Lights all came on but no starter motor turn over.
I didnt have time to fix it for a couple of weeks, but would sometimes try to start it now and then in the hope that it would start.
Then, it did!!
I wasnt able to find the problem as its never happened again, but i suspect it may have been the connections onto the starter motor being dirty or a bit corroded. A lot of the connections in my car are a bit like this causing lots of bad connections.

for a start pete how come will it be the immobalizer when the light dont go dim? could sit here & think a good few things what else it could be! but immobalizer should be the last thing if you dont know you have one then chances are you wont have! i would start with spark plugs taking out number one getting someone to help you with this & touch the spark plug to the earth of the car(like the lifting ring or something metel)
& seeing if it sparks? if no check leads working from one then two & so on till you checked all plugs & leads cleaning the spark plugs before you put back in! (or me i would go out & get new plugs & leads anyway if you not done so in the last year or so! start at point a working to point b then c & so on without skipping out anything & going back then you will come up with whats wrong! let me know how you get on with that! thanks

hi if you turn the key on and the battery and oil light come on bright try to start it if nothing happens but the lights stay bright it is the immobalizer, but if the engine tries to start it is not the immobalizer , then you need to check charge in the battery , make sure battery terminals are tight , all earth terminals are clean , spark plugs are clean ,but first of all make sure the fuse for the fuel pump has not blown it will be in the fuse box inside the car good luck
