Mend Gainsborough 8.5e Shower Water

How can I fix a Gainsborough 8.5e shower?

The water flows through the head OK. I have cleaned the filter out, but still the arm that operates the micro switches does not lift automatically. If I assist it the shower heats the water fine.
Any advice? I can only see a complete assembly as a replacement, but more than the cost of the damn thing.
