ppeugeot 406 electric window not working?

hi
i have a x reg peugeot 406 with a faulty window i have bought a second hand window regulator and that wont work
i have put a tester on the switch when i press or depress the switch i get power to the regulator but through the same wire{red} for up and down
i thought i should get power through different wires for up or down
