and it will matter if you connect l1 to l2 if you have two way switching,in this case you must wire l1 to l1,l2 to l2 and c to c

not quite true,if the loop in and loop out is in the ceiling rose, then you will only have live connections in the back box mate, some guys like to wire up lights with loop in loop out,to the rose, others wire up to the back box,so you have neutral connections there, light circuits are very simple, not rocket science

The cable from the consumer unit will carry Live & Neutral

Live needs to be connected to the C terminal of Both Switches - a small link from one to another will achieve this.

Each individual switch will provide switched live to turn its light on and off - Connect the Live Wire for each lamp to the L1 terminals of the respective switches - it will not matter if you connect to L2 instead of L1.

This will leave you with 3 Neutral return wires - one from each lamp and one running off to the fuse board - all three should be joined together but NOT connected to the the switches - In your original arrangement there was probably a piece of Terminal Strip for this neutral connection - you do not mention it.

You should also make provision for the Earth wires - there is usually an earth point in the metal pattress box - use that.

Take care.
