How can i fix my Thomson DSI8210 Sky+ box ?

I have bought a second hand Thomson DSI sky+ box from a friend, when i have connected it up the menu screen will not come up, the power light stays on red no matter what and wont turn green, is there anything i can do to sort out this problem?
