How to fix craftsman 4.5 briggs and stratton model # 917.388834?

My mower just began to smoke and leak oil out of the muffler trying to see if I can repair it myself

Craftsman Craftsman 917.388834 Garden Tools, Lawn Mowers Repair Mower Briggs & Stratton

The oil is either over filled, or you have a broken ring on the piston or your valve guides are loose.

Check your oil level. How old is the mower? If your oil level is good then depending on how old it is the valve guides might be wore and leaking and/or the compression or scraper ring on the piston could be broke.
