dealership can't find problem paid hundred's of pounds for what it might be but still occuring. Have changed relay, fuel pump recently. battery got in feb but car started cutting out friend lent me his (was for Vax Astra) and it ran fine until i returned mine to the shop and they gave me a new battery. sometimes it cuts out when it has been going for a little while, then restarts either straight away, 10/15 min later or you just have to leave it. left car running the other day whilst my sister nipped into the newsagents and it died on me. can anyone help please thanks very much.
I have a P reg 1997 petrol VW Sharan. I also had a problem where driving through a puddle would result in complete loss of power.
Had the coil pack replaced and this has cured that particular problem. If you have this problem keep a can of wd 40 in the car, and spray everything in the vicinity of the coil pack until you can get it replaced.
I found after a spray the car would start and I could continue my journey

I had a problem with my R reg Sharan , everytime I drove through a puddle the engine died completely and would only restart after about 5mins. I noticed that it mainly happened when the Left hand / nearside / passenger side wheel went through a puddle. Underneath the car , behind the passenger side front wheel was some kind of an electric cable going into a junction box. I sprayed it with ignition sealant and that has cured the problems

we have an R reg Sharan doing exactly the same thing. I'm searching forums now and two things that come up are coil pack and engine speed sensor. Our car has become worse and now dies even when it drives through a puddle. Have given up with garages!

I wonder if it is a petrol VR6 engine (you don't tell us). If so I'd suspect a faulty coil pack.
