Zanussi AquacycleWhen put on the display goes straight from Start to End?

When I have put the washing machine onto a cycle program it flashes start but then goes straight to end and beeps as though the cycle has finished.
I managed to get it working a few times by spinning the dial but now i can't get it to work start at all just flash and beep !!
Please help
