Mend Start Years Fire

New Stihl 210 won't start?

I have an unused MS210 which has been in its box for 5 years (don't ask). Just got it assembled but can't get it to start - not even a single fire. Never been fuelled up until now so can't be a problem with gummed up carb. Could something have perished just from the passing of time? Any ideas what to check first?
Thanks for any advice.

Saw now starts fine - found the problem was a poor connection between the HT lead and the plug. Seemed to be an oxide layer on the connector which pushes into the cap: no continuity between electrode and the cap. After I emeried the cap to remove the oxide it worked fine.

OK, thanks for clarification - and yes, the choke lever is right down though it does tend to flood after a few pulls. However, on checking the spark I found that there isn't one. I'll search the forum to see if there is already some advice on that.

Yes remove the filter and sqirt down the air intake, dont mean to be sarcastic but you have pushed the chke lever right don to the bottom?

OK thanks Husqvarna man. By carb elbow do you mean the air intake? Sounds like I should also check the spark while I am about it - though difficult to imagine what could have failed in the HT circuit.

Maybe the carb diaphrams have completely dryed out, try priming with a little fuel straight down the carb elbow, if it has a spark it should fire up.
