Mend Diplomat ceramic touch hob Switch Start

diplomat ceramic touch hob?

hi..when i switch it on by the mains and then start the touch button all hobs show a ( L )..i think its locked??..when it was runnig i accidently put a pan over the controls and it bleeped..any help??..johnp
