Mend Volkswagen Golf Overheating Coolant Thermostat

Over Heating Golf 1996?

My Golf overheated at the weekend...there is no coolant leak. Someone told me I could disconnect the thermostat and it would work fine. is this true and how can i disconnect the thermostat.

thermostat is there for a reason so ignoring the main fault will only delay the inevitable.Find the source of the problem,if you cant see no leaks check to see if the expansion tank has excess pressure or if there are bubbles in the coolant which may point out the head gasket is at fault
