Beko fridge not working but freezer is?

Hi can anyone help my fridge has decided it doesnt want to work anymore but the freezer is still ok. About a week ago i opened the door and the light had stopped working on the outside it has been flashing red and the number 9, We have unplugged and it has stopped flashing but is still showing the number 9, when for the past couple of years is should be on number 5. There is no water dripping of the roof of the fridge and the plug is not blocked, i can hear a fan working but not sure if its just the freezer one working. So have no light for the fridge and no cold air, any suggestions be greatly appreciated, as don't want to buy a new one if i dont need one, or call out a repair man that will charge the earth !!
