nissan micra 1986 battery charge light?

problem battery charge light remaining on when ignition switched off(even when key removed) This causes battery to go flat,we have checked battery is not loosing charge when engine running.BATTERY LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON WHEN ENGINE IS RUNNING.Alternator appear to be very hot ?alternator related
