Mend Indesit Fit Door Seal Machine

How do you fit a door seal to an Indesit WIL103 washing machine?

How do you fit a door seal to an Indesit WIL103 washing machine? I can see that the inner circular spring retainer must be fitted first, but how do you do it? The outer circular "wire plus spring" retainer is easy to fit from the outside with the help of an assistant. Also the new door seal from "espares" has bulge and ribbed feature on the inner edge. Does this go at the bottom?

Bill Lambert you are a star!!
Having struggled with my daughter to get the darn spring back on i started to search the net again for tips and found yours.
We did it first try.
So everyone listen to Bill ,i am not very strong and have weak wrists and i managed to do this with my 14 yrd old daughter.
Thank you Bill so much!

Thanks Bill ! just used your answer to replace our door seal. Only took 10 mins although I'd already removed the top. I put washing up liquid in the groove that goes round the drum and it virtually popped itself on, Kind Regards Paul

I finally did it myself, with my wife helping. You do not need to move the machine or remove its lid section. First take the door off (2 screws) to give easier access, then prise out the wire/spring retainer which holds the outer edge of the seal to the front of the washing machine. To do this first lever out the centre of the spring section, which is at the 10 o'clock position, with a blunt cutlery knife.
Next remove the old door seal from the drum casing by gently pulling it towards you whilst pushing downwards at the centre of the bottom part to stretch the spring retaining band.

If there is a finned bulgy bit on the new door seal, I put it at the bottom. Take the new seal and fit it around the white lip of the drum casing starting at the top with your assistant holding it in place at the start point. This is a little difficult but it can be done.
Then carefully push the rest of the doorseal into the drum so it ends up virtually inside-out - again a bit difficult.
Now for the hardest bit: Take the spring retainer which will hold the seal in place on the drum case and starting at the 9 o'clock position, (just above the concrete weight), put the spring into its grove, with your assistant holding it there. Then work it into place around the bottom of the drum case. Your left hand can hold it in place whilst your right hand can continue fitting it into the grove working anti-clockwise back to the start point. The spring retainer has to be stretched whilst you are doing this. Then check that it firmly held in place onto the lip of the drum case all the way around.

Fixing the outer seal is easier. Next pull the door seal out of the drum and no longer inside-out, then fit the grove in the outer lip of the door seal onto the edge of the circular apperture that forms the doorway of the front of the washing machine. I started at the top. When you are satisfied that is is correctly seated all the way around, take wire/spring retainer and starting with the spring section at the 10'o clock position, feed it into the grove in the rubber. Your assistant will need to hold it place at the start point. I worked anti-clockwise. The spring will need stretching as you reach the starting point. Check it looks and feels ok. Finally put the door back on with the 2 screws. All done!
