Mountfield empress 16 pull cord replacement?

tip on spring coil... screwdriver through the plastic top grille. gaffer tape it. then take apart having removed the fuel. taken spark plug lead off. photo each step and use sharpie pens to colour code the bolts or a bit of masking tape and pencil so you can return the long ones to the right holes. everything on this job is only screwdriver tight. not tommy bar anywhere. quarter turn max to tighten as steel bolts will split alloy threads . beware better slight loose than bar tight. over do the pull cord length . it can be knotted where you need it afters, trap it with a bag sealing folding clip once you have wound the cord around the spool. do not emphasise.. not take screwdriver out to release spring until u have fully reassembled. btw the oil filler tube does need to come off. !!

it is straite forward if you are shown but (i,m unable to explain)but if you search for other pull start (sthil)there are some diags that show you how,principle is the same an idea of time to do is about 15mins in a shop(anyware that deales in petrol tools

Take a look on the lawnmower section on U tube, there are quite a few vids which will show you how to do it step by step and safely.

If it's anything like the mountfield I've just taken apart, I would advise taking it somewhere. There's a vicious piece of coiled metal spring inside which sprung loose and nearly took my eye out and the whole thing was a nightmare and still not resolved. There's obviously a knack to it but i'ts a pest to re-assemble and not obvious how to rewind the cord to the correct tension. Good luck!
