Mend Ideal Standard Dual Toilet

We have a dual flush ideal standard toilet and the buttons are stuck down?

HOw do we get the buttons up ? I have tried getting something under to pop them up but nothing will go down the side, i cant get the flush button out without the buttons as i need to press them down to get them out. Any suggestions
