How do I put the belt on my Yard Machine deck?

I have a 42" riding Yard Machine by MTD, and I can't figure out how to put the belt around the inner pulleys. They have a piece of metal next to the pulleys too close for the belt to slide through. If anyone knows how to put the belt on please let me know. Thank you
