How can I make the blades quit rotating when I disengage the lever?

4-2014 I started having the same trouble and as a last resort I sprayed a focused stream of water to all of the mower deck parts washing it while the motor was running with the blades engaged and disengaged (clutch positions). This worked, so success at least while everything was wet.

I replaced the cable thinking it was stuck on mine, but that didn't fix it. I've replaced both the mower & the drive belts because the manual states that they are not adjustable & there definitely doesn't seem to be any adjustments that can be made. I did receive a little bolt with the cable that goes thru one of the idler pulleys, but i decided not to pull everything down again to put it on. But I can't believe that piece would be what's hanging up the pulleys. They just won't drop to disengage the mower blades. Anybody have any ideas?

There are two blade brakes on the deck. They press on the spindle pulleys to stop the blades when the belt is disengaged. Look at them to see if their worn down to bare metal.

Thanks whp for your help. I will take your advice and try to loosen it next week when at the farm. However, I cannot find anything about adjusting the belts in my owners manual. It does tell me how to remove and install a belt. Maybe I will find it when I get the mower off. I appreciate your help very much.

Your belt is too tight. Loosen it a little and the problem should go away.
