How do i fix my dim speedometer mileage display?

I have a peugeot 406, 1998.The speedometer was fine till two weeks back. In the day time,the digital display is invisible, even if you switch on the parking lamps, it's too faint. It's fairly visible when in the night, how do i fix that, pls advise.
