Camshaft bearings?

I started my car and the engine went really loud, I turned it off then it wouldnt start again, the rac guy said it was my camshaft bearings, how much will this cost

are you sure he said bearings and not belt? it is belt that usually fails. and depending on make /model /engine type /etc,can be fairly expensive!
