hotpoint wf541 door jammed?

I cant get the door to open. My daughter may have overloaded it but i cant really tell.

It seems to be in perfect working order, although this problem did start when The machine got stuck on a cycle. I Thought it was the spin cycle that had happened once or twice in the past but the clothes were soaking and had obviously not been spun at all. So I shut the door and set to spin.

I have cleaned the filter (there were a couple of coins in it) and I have checked the pump for any obstructions. I have tried to get the lock to release by putting it on a slow spin cycle, fast spin and empty. I am now putting it thru another wash to see if that helps somehow.

Does anyone know what else might be wrong or at least a way to get my clothes out?

Forget it. After taking the washing machine apart I found out how to manually release the catch. Once the door was opened I could see that the door hook mechanism had snapped inside.

For now I have tied a small ribbon over the hook and thru the handle. I have to pull the ribbon now to release the catch. Not perfect but at least it will hold till i can get the part delivered
