Should a Craftsman clutch rotate?
My question is in regards to my Craftsman Zero Turn Riding Lawn Tractor (model # 107.277720). When I pulled the PTO switch to engage the blades last time, they did not engage. I found the clutch wires to be shredded. I had an electrician rewire them. The problem now is......I am afraid to pull the PTO because we were not sure how the wires were tied up and it appears that the clutch will rotate as the drive belt pulley under the clutch spins. If that happens, the wires will spin around and tear again. It seems that the clutch should not rotate but it does when I hand spin it. I looked at several other brands of tractors today at Home Depot and all clutches were mounted sturdy and did not rotate. The manual does not show the clutch in the mounted position under the tractor so I am unaware if a piece may have broken off that keeps the clutch from spinning. Please tell me if the clutch should spin or not. Also, if you have a better diagram other than in the owners manual, it would be helpful.
