only reason it would be dangerous to drive is if the belt is already broken. Then u risk losing all battery power & probably the engine overheating as i'm sure this belt is also connected to the water pump.
if its broken your battery will discharge quite rapidly & if you attempt to drive it at night you will have very little vision.
most belts quite easy to repair.
