Sounds like there is spinning but drum wont go round?
The hotpoint washing machine made a hell of a noise one wash. Now you can only hear some low spinning noise but the metal drum isnt turning. What could it be? Can I fix it myself?
it could be the carbon brushes on the motor , they ca easily be removed and replaced , will fix the machine for pennies

the first thing you try is to see if the inner drum will turn freely as the noise may have been the bearings or the drum carrier failing.

Hi Bob, sounds like the drive belt to me. Take the back inspection cover off and take a peek at the motor....there should be a belt connecting this to the wheel on the back of the "metal drum"
