ford transt 1999 2.5 d?

ford transit manual clutch cable 1999 carried a clutch replacement due to spring broken when gearbox woz on floor removed what thought woz oil level plug but wasnt it woz a allen bolt at top of gearbox with a light looking spring inside refit plug thought nothing of it when putting gear lever in housing locates in with 3 torx bolts goes across the gate bit will not select any gears.start vehicle up gear lever in what looks like neutral goes to drive away in 1st any ideas please
