i am trying to disconnect a gas cooker from from the wall?

What wirecutterman might be trying to say is that potential danger may lurk in disconnecting the cooker from the gas supply.

On my gas cooker union there's a push and twist bayonet type connector - when the cooker piece is removed the gas supply is automatically cut off.

Yours may be different so take care.
