my electric drill has stopped working model bosch 650RE?

I'm trying a fix a friend's PSB 650 RES his had "gone off" - on inspection I found the neutral wire in the mains lead severed just below the handle - probably through general use. Easy enough to fix (I thought) I removed the scrwes in the body of the drill and removed the whole switch assembly from the handle but I noticed the two (L & N) wires connected to the swith housing itself had disconnected - the problem I have now is, although I've repaired the fault I can't get the two-halves of the drill body removed in order to re-connect the wires back onto the switch. assembly. It looks as though I will have to do this as they're made far too short at manufacturing stage in order to re-connect them without removing the case.
