Mend HP 1500 Printer Cartridges Hp

HP 1500 3 in 1 printer ?

I have recently aquired this printer that does everything except print!! I have never used this but if I spent on new cartridges will it definitely work?? On screen (through HP sofware) Cartridges are showing FULL. I do not wish to spend money on cartridges if it is not going to work !
