Why Washing machine draining while filling?

Have just bought used Kenmore 80 series heavy duty model 110 I just wanted to test it in garage as i have to tear out a closet an wall to put in the house . I hooked up cold water from faucet outside plugged the hot water inlet with a cap turned it on it started filling but was draining from the plastic pipe on bottom of machine in the back . I didnt put a drain hose on as i havent bought one yet. Any help would be appreciated thanks Dan
