how can i fix my escort van?

Hi got a starting fault with my ford escort turbo diesel have to turn engine over loads before starting change filter housing but still the same can anyone help. Thanks

check fuel pipes at rear of engine for pin hole where pipes have chaffed together or on engine! may be fuel outlet pipe on tank/fuel gauge has rusted through causing air to ingress.

What do you mean by the filter housing?Do you mean the diesel filter,if so you may not have fitted it correctly (it does happen) and you are drawing air into the system.More info might help.
